New Tech App, Countable, Could Badly Skew SF Democracy. *We* Must Learn To Use It Immediately.

IMPORTANT ALERT:To All SF Neighborhood, Social Justice, & Environmental Organizers

In today’s SF Chronicle there is a very ominous article about a new web ‘App’ called ‘Countable’ that allows people to use their cellphones and computers to very quickly and very early in the process of creating legislation tell our politicians ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to that legislation.

This presents the very real and imminent danger that the wave of tech and real estate profiteers (like Ron Conway) who are invading, gentrifying, building giant real estate towers, and subverting environmental and health laws in San Francisco will be able to use their highly tech savvy libertarian constituency to constantly overwhelm the legislative process in City Hall with their profit-above-all agenda, by using this ‘App’.

WE MUST LEARN TO USE THIS APP, SHOW ALL OF OUR CONSTITUENTS HOW TO USE IT, AND MAKE SURE THAT ALL PEOPLE IN OUR COMMUNITIES HAVE THE CELLPHONES, COMPUTERS AND TRAINING THEY NEED TO ENABLE THEM TO PARTICIPATE BY USING IT

THEN *WE* MUST USE IT TO CONTINUOUSLY ACTIVATE ALL OF OUR CONSTITUENTS TO SOUND A CONSTANT DRUMBEAT OF *DEMAND* TO CITY HALL

If we do not get on top of this App bigtime and make it one of *our* tools for activism, it could be used to badly skew politics in favor of our profit driven opponents who seek to turn San Francisco into their personal condo-ized, strip mall, white privileged cash cow at the expense of our beautiful city and its beautifully diverse people.

Here is the link to the App (which is currently only oriented on federal politicians):

And here is the link to the Chronicle article which shows that the app is about to be adapted (as of today) to be used to influence local San Francisco politics:
